RYA YOUTH CHAMPION AWARD FOR REDESMERE SAILOR

Published 10:41pm on 16 Feb 2020

The RYA have recently announced that Redesmere's Tom Brindley has been recognised as Regional Youth Champion, for both his sailing successes and for his contribution to the sport.

Tom started his sailing as a child-novice at Redesmere and, whilst Tom is known as an established racer competing at National and International levels and winning the RYA NW Junior and Youth Traveller series for three consecutive years, he actively supports the Club's own RYA Training programme as Dinghy Instructor and the local Sea Scouts. Tom also spends time to working with children who have been excluded from school for a variety of behavioural issues, in a variety of outdoor and watersport activities, giving them the opportunities to direct their energies into water sports they may never have had the chance to.

Alongside travelling the country for performance training, in 2019 Tom's passion for sailing and gaining new experiences drove him to take part in the Tall Ships Race to Denmark and Norway with the Rona Sailing Project in 2019, as part of their race crew.

A regular presence around the Club, willingly giving of his time and experience to mentor and support other Junior and Youth sailors, Tom's success is well-deserved.
