Training Overview

Redesmere Sailing Club is an accredited RYA Training Centre and RYA Champion Club and as such, is committed to providing high quality training to Members of all ages and sailing abilities. Children must be aged 5 or over; we have yet to discover an upper age-limit for adults!

Our accreditation enables us to teach and examine candidates under various RYA training schemes. These include; The National Dinghy Sailing Scheme, the Youth Sailing Scheme, the Powerboat Scheme and the Emergency First Aid Scheme.

Our dedicated training team is made up of RYA qualified volunteer instructors, supported by experienced helpers, who run all of our RYA approved training courses. Training is provided in a range of single-handed and double-handed Club Boats appropriate to the experience, age and syllabus for the relevant course. The same Club Boats are available to Members to further practise and develop the skills learned at any of our range of Social Sail or Race events or, if sufficiently confident, Informal Sailing on their own.

Alongside the formal courses, we also run a regular series of 'clinics' alongside both Social Sailing and Racing to help improve sailing, support those first steps into racing and/or to improve existing racing skills.

More information on training courses, dates, prices and Terms & Conditions is available from Training Programme & Course Application, the annual Training Programme and the Training Calendar.

Applying for Training Courses

Training courses are available to all Club members. Booking for training places opens in mid-February and is online application only, via this website. Early application is strongly recommended as places for first preference courses are allocated strictly on a first come first served basis. The number of places on each course depends on the availability of instructors and the number of boats available, as well as the age and experience of the candidates involved.

If you are unable or unwilling to book online, please contact data@redesmere.org.uk to discuss alternative booking options.

All course members are required to purchase the relevant RYA logbooks, if they do not already possess them from previous training courses. Also recommended, and available, are the companion handbooks which give more details of the syllabi and detailed training guidance.

If you would like more information about training course content or delivery, please contact Rachel Ward, Training Principal.
