RYA 'SAILING MBE' AWARD FOR MARJORIE
Published 12:00am on 8 Mar 2021
Congratulations to Marjorie White who has been recognised with an RYA Volunteer Award for Lifetime Commitment.
The RYA Volunteer Awards are generally recognised as the MBE's of sailing and recognise the outstanding contributions made by volunteers throughout the UK. Normally, the Awards are presented personally by HRH The Princess Royal, President of the RYA, in London. Unfortunately, this cannot happen this year, due the obvious constraints and the are RYA are arranging for a local presentation.
As the RYA citation highlights, Marjorie has been and remains "the engine which drives so much of what makes everyone enjoy their experience at the Club... calm, organised, unflappable and committed to people enjoying their sailing, doing whatever she can to assist in any way - on or off the water... always in the background, never seeking visibility or recognition".
The Club has a great track record of individuals who have earned RYA Volunteer Awards, ranging from Roger Alexander in 2002 to, more recently, Gary Lowe in 2019. The full list can be seen under RYA National Awards.
If you are not a Member of the Club, but want to know a little more about us and/or how anyone can enjoy the sport of sailing, whatever their skill, aspiration or budget, try our Club Page for an overview (or even how to Join Us) or feel free to Contact Us.
