EASTER CHAMPAGNE SAILING!
Published 2:16pm on 6 Apr 2021
Fair weather for the first week of post-lockdown activities week and a stunning sailing window over the Easter break, brought something for everyone - Social Sailing, Easter Trophy racing, on-the-water Mentoring, Informal Sailing, Standup Paddleboarding and RC sailing. The best of all that is Redesmere and what great weather; blue skies, sun and a fresh breeze.
Initial open-up on 29th March was followed by paddleboarding on Monday evening, RC sailing on Tuesday and Informal Sailing & Paddleboarding through the week. Saturday afternoon brought Social Sailing with a steady breeze, sun with Susan as Beachmaster and Jimmy on Safety Boat providing help, assistance and social-distancing guidance as required, on and off the water - just the conditions to have a great time on and off the water and so many people did. It was great to see so much activity on and off the water after the Covid-enforced lay-off as people just enjoyed the weather, the sailing and socially-distanced company.
Easter Sunday saw the first One Day event the racing season, the Easter Trophy Handicap and whilst the Bank Holiday Monday weather was 'less-inviting' Members took advantage of the day to go Informal Sailing in both their own boats and the fleet of modern free-to-use Club Boats.
All in all a great Easter break, showcasing the best of Redesmere, as members of all abilities, aspiration and experience had a great time learning new skills, dusting off old skills and generally having fun on the water. Long may it continue through the season.
Social Sailing, Racing, SUP, Informal and RC sailing now continue every week and on the 18th April we welcome visiting sailors for an Open Event (in place of the cancelled round of the regional Laser Championship which was due to come to Redesmere that day), where they will be treated to a warm Redesmere welcome and our traditional high levels of hospitality.
A small selection of photographs from this week's sailing events are available from our Gallery
