RYA NORTH WEST JUNIOR & YOUTH TRAVELLERS at Redesmere

Published 3:23pm on 22 Sep 2019

On the 7th September, the RYA North West Junior & Youth Travellers came to Redesmere for round 8 of the 10 round series. The NWJYT is multi-class tour, geared towards enjoyable racing, encouraging RYA Zone Qualification and with on the water support for those new to racing. Typical classes include Optimist, Topper, RS Feva, Laser and RS200, although all classes were welcomed, with prizes awarded in U11, U14, U16 and U19 categories. Coaching was provided at the back of the fleet along with a Lead Boat at the start of each race.

The usual friendly welcome awaited all attendees, along with a vibrant atmosphere, with Welcome tea & toast etc available on arrival and the Social Team providing an excellent hot lunch. (From a parents' point of view, it was worth attending for the food alone!).

Without a need to pre-register, a number of participants simply turned-up on the day - with a total of nearly 50 boats travelling from far and wide across the region to take part. Weather on the day was fine with light winds and all three races went off on time, with close racing at the front of the fleet whilst novice racers improved through the day, taking advantage of the support available from the coaching boat towards the back of the fleet . Despite a mixed performance on the day Redesmere's Tom Brindley remains top of the NWJYT leader board.

A selection of photographs from the event are available in the Club Gallery. Video footage and further photographs are available c/o Richard Hall Photography
