RYA Club of the Year
Across the UK there are over 1,000 RYA affiliated sailing clubs, with a total membership in the region of 325,000 members, and each year the RYA searches for the best Club in the UK, covering all aspects of a 'good' club, including
- Encouraging people to get on the water
- Providing a range of quality and safe activities for all
- Attracting new club members and volunteers
- Engaging with the local community
- Demonstrating good governance and club management
In particular, the RYA highlighted Redesmere's vibrant membership, the broad range of sailing and development opportunities and a track-record of improving both sailing participation and the Club's operation and facilities, in all their aspects:
- "Redesmere is a great family club with lots of activity for everyone, on and off the water, whatever their age, ability or sailing aspiration."
- "A key focus the integration of the sailing and training calendars, to ensure a clear pathway for people learning to sail and social sailing through to regular club racing"
- "this club is truly a club run by its members for its members."
Adam McGovern, RYA NW Regional Development Officer added:
- "I'm really happy for the club. They're a well organised club, they're involved in a lot of different projects, they're a really inclusive club and they do a lot for both juniors and adults.
- "We've worked closely with them to help them establish their sailing programmes, and they've proved to be a very self-sufficient club. They now have great infrastructures in place and sustainable models that will ensure the club thrives for a long time."
