ROYAL STANDARD RAISED at Redesmere Celebration

Published 1:00am on 1 Jul 2018

On 25th July 2017 HRH The Princess Royal, President of the Royal Yachting Association, joined around 180 of the Club's members for nearly two hours at the culmination of the Club's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and to formally open the recently extended foreshore facilities.

During an extensive visit, Princess Anne joined members of the Club's training team on the water, and took an active interest in the broad range of sailors both practising their skills and simply improving their enjoyment of sailing, ranging from young novices sailing Optimists, through youth race training, to adults improving their general skills and confidence in a range of boats.

Ashore, the Princess met a wide range of Members including those that had earlier been on the water. Having recently returned from winning the Red Bull Youth Americas Cup with Ben Ainsley's LandRover BAR Academy, Club Member Elliot Hanson was also on hand to meet Her Royal Highness and to continue his mentoring and support of younger Club Members as they progress through the same Club training and development culture that set him on his path to success only a few years ago.

Before leaving, Her Royal Highness presented a range of RYA Training Certificates to recently qualified Members and formally opened the extended foreshore.

Throughout the visit Her Royal Highness, who is an enthusiastic sailor in her own right, took a keen and active interest in not just the Club and its recent developments, but also the Club and its culture of openness and enjoyment of sailing for all, which underpins the ethos of the Club and was a significant factor in Redesmere winning RYA Club of the Year in 2016.
