OUR OWN OLYMPIAN, ELLIOT HANSON, RETURNS FOR BART'S BASH
Published 2:50pm on 17 Sep 2021
Bart's Bash is the world's largest sailing event, where sailors of all experience and ability across all forms of the sport, from wakeboarding through to ocean racing, using the unique Bart Number for handicapping, with all funds raised going to the Andrew Simpson Foundation.
This year's Redesmere Bart's Bash event was held on Sunday 12th September and Club Members were joined on the water by fellow Member Elliot Hanson, relaxing after his recent return from competing in the Olympic Laser fleet. Members and friends of all ages, experience and aspiration took part in Bart's Bash in a true reflection of the Bart's Bash ethos; for some this was was the first time they had ever raced, for others it is the only race they will enter this year and for Elliot it was a chance to reconnect with his home Club - that is how special an event Bart's Bash is. Whilst at the Club, Elliot was delighted to be able to share advice and guidance with the junior and youth sailors, not just sailing and racing skills, but also the journey from young Club sailor to World success. He is a huge inspiration to all our juniors, any of whom may be just beginning their own journey to follow in his footsteps to World and Olympic sailing.
As usual, the entire fleet of free-to-use Club Boats was available for Members use in the Bart's Bash race and throughout the day. Club Optimists, Toppers, Fevas, Neos and Quests were all on the water, sailing alongside the varied fleet of Members' own boats - ranging from the latest modern single-handers to traditional single and double-handed 'clinker-built' boats.
After the event, and a brief break for an 'Afternoon Tea', many Members spent the afternoon Social Sailing, making the most of the sun and breeze.
If you are not a Member of the Club, but want to know a little more about us and/or how anyone can enjoy the sport of sailing, whatever their skill, aspiration or budget, try our Club Page for an overview (or even how to Join Us) or feel free to Contact Us.
