OLYMPICS FUN COMES TO REDESMERE
Published 11:03am on 5 Aug 2021
To celebrate the 2021 Olympics, Redesmere held its own fun Olympics involving a mixed range of fun events for participants of all ages, on the water, off the water and also some 'quizzing'. The RYA also joined in the fun as part of their 'Return to Boating' programme. After a fun-filled afternoon that included Sailing races (including sailing backwards and on-the-water ball collection competition), paddleboard races, combined relay races, throwing events, volley ball, fun golf and culminating in an Olympic quiz. Following the final Medals Presentation and raffling of Team GB merchandise, the Club BBQs were lit as the Club's annual Prize Giving began and tents were being erected for an overnight sleepover.
With the Club's Olympic Laser sailor, Elliot Hanson, competing in Tokyo, the Club was pleased to welcome back his father, Mark, to join in the fun.
On Sunday morning cooked breakfast was available from the Social Committee, for those who wanted a filling start to the day (bearing in mind that the Galley & Bar had been open until late on the Saturday night!) and the next round of the Club's Summer Wine racing series began - a great event for all our less-experienced racers and social sailors as this series runs on a Personal Handicap basis with an individual 'trophy' on the day for each day's overall winner as well as the usual end-of-series trophy.
More pictures from the event are available in the Gallery.
