International 12' Invitation at Redesmere...
On the weekend of 5-6th of October 2024, I had gained permission to invite a small number of International 12 foot dinghy owners to bring their boats to our club, to sail on the Saturday social sailing day & also join our Sunday racing if wanted alongside the Founders trophy. Two boats came in the end to join Fubbs, totalling a third of the known UK fleet. Both days gave us a strong SSE breeze of surprisingly steady direction & no rain. Both visitors really enjoyed the time here and noted how friendly and interested the members were, asking many questions about their boats.
Jonathan suggested I get some photos of the occasion, so I enlisted help from experts Greg Hunt & Joanna Rhodes who both braved the cool temperatures to get some great photos, on land, afloat & by drone.
Both boats were older than mine, Einepyk from 1943 & Royal Oak from 1937, but I expected Einepyk would be faster than Fubbs, having raced regularly in the Swiss fleet, surprisingly though I was able to work out a lead over Steve in the four races, though I didn't trouble our club hot shots. This left me a problem though, knowing a visitor couldn't race for our Founders trophy I had made a trophy to award to, I thought, the highest placed Int 12. I then had to hastily revise this to the highest placed visiting Int 12. OOD Kevin kindly did the honours, awarding the prize to a very surprised Steve Crook: Einepyk SUI 04.
Martin Royle: Fubbs GBR 53.
