Diamond Jubilee Dinner opens the Club's month of celebrations.

Published 7:18pm on 9 Jul 2017

The Diamond Jubilee Dinner at the Swettenham Arms was a lovely occasion in a beautiful setting.

Alongside fine company, fine food and fine drink were two compelling displays, the fascinating story of the Club's journey so far and a photographic journey through the Club's archive. For those unfortunate enough to have missed them, there will be a chance to see them again during the Jubilee Royal Celebration on 25th with HRH The Princess Royal.

After dinner attendees enjoyed personal recollections of life and times at the Club from Jon Whitehead, whose memories included paddling the 'floating island' into the lake, and from former Commodore Brian Williams, who recounted his personal involvement in the challenging construction of the sanitation system that is taken for granted today.

Brian then presented the Club with a lovely water colour painting of sailing on the mere, which he had himself been presented with as Commodore in the 1970's. The painting will now hang in the Clubhouse on public view.

Allin all, a great night for the Club. For more on the Club's history and journey, take a look at the 'History' section of the Club website.
