HRH THE PRINCESS ROYAL to join Club Jubilee Celebrations, 25th July

Published 1:00am on 9 Jun 2017

Redesmere Sailing Club Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

This year marks the Diamond Jubilee of Redesmere Sailing Club and to celebrate its journey from a field by a lake where the cows came down to drink, to the vibrant, friendly Club we know today, we have planned a series of events throughout July.

It is with great pride that we can announce that HRH The Princess Royal (President of the Royal Yachting Association) will be joining us for the culmination of the Club's Diamond Jubilee Celebration, on the evening of 25th July.

This early evening event, following the daytime Summer Week Training session, is a chance for all our Members' to meet HRH The Princess Royal, President of the RYA, as she joins us to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee, meet and see our sailors in action, present RYA qualification certificates and to formally open the Club's extended foreshore.

As a lifelong sailor, as well as President of the RYA, no doubt there will be words of wisdom and encouragement for everyone present.

A once in a lifetime opportunity, so book that date in your diary now.

The other key events of the Jubilee Celebrations throughout July have been,

  • 8th July - Diamond Jubilee Dinner
  • 15th July – Jubilee Social Sailing
  • 25th July – Jubilee Royal Celebration event

Diamond Jubilee Dinner – 8th July, 7:30pm 'til late

Marking a return to previous social life in the Club, this family friendly evening dinner for Club Members and friends (old & new) will be held at the Swettenham Arms (www.swettenhamarms.co.uk/about-us) on 8th July, with the private bar open from 7:00pm

The Swettenham Arms is nestled in the heart of the Cheshire countryside between Congleton and Holmes Chapel and dates back to the 16th century. As one of Cheshire's favourite gastro country inns, the Swettenham Arms is also Recommended by Michelin Restaurant and Hotel Guides, as well as numerous other publications, and for many years, has also been hosting larger dinners and functions.

With a choice of 3-course menus available, after-dinner coffee and mints, the opportunity for dancing to a local DJ with a range of music that crosses the generations, and great conversation as the evening goes on, we are sure a good time will be had by all.

A photo display and memory board will be available to trigger past memories for our longer standing members and to provide some background on the Club's long history to newer Members.

Bookings are now being taken, at £30 per person with children under-10 at half price. For those who prefer, there is also the opportunity to book a table for you and your friends – please see the Menu and Booking Form in the Diamond Jubilee Members' Area for more details.

Dress code: Smart casual / lounge suit

An event not to be missed and sure to be sold out, so please book early.

Jubilee Social Sail – 15th July

On the afternoon of Saturday 15th July the Club will be hosting a Social Sailing event with a difference. Alongside the usual range of free-sailing and Club Boats, there will also be some fun and entertaining games for social sailors of all ages and experience. Examples of what to expect might include,

  • -On the water treasure hunt (family or team)
  • -Ice-cream race for children
  • -Blindfold rigging
  • -Out and back across the lake carrying a beaker of juice – winner brings back the most juice (not lake water!)
  • -Adult/parent 'racing' in Optimists: an event not to be missed and sure to generate some photo moments. It's not serious, but…

Needless to say, the Social Committee will be laying on cakes and other tasties and (obviously) the Galley and Bar will be fully stocked.

A fun afternoon for all, so why not plan to stop into the evening and have a DIY BBQ from the Club BBQs. The truly dedicated could even make a night of it and camp-over.

Jubilee Royal Celebration – 25th July

An early evening event, following the daytime Summer Week Training session. Your chance to celebrate the Club, its history and its future in the company of friends and Members (old and new). There will be activity on the water, historical retrospectives, a look to the future and HRH The Princess Royal will be joining us to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee, meet and see our sailors in action, present RYA qualification certificates and to formally open the Club's extended foreshore.

As a lifelong sailor, as well as President of the RYA, no doubt there will be words of wisdom and encouragement for everyone present.

A once in a lifetime opportunity, so book that date in your diary now.

Details will be announced nearer the time and are available in the Diamond Jubilee Members' Area, but we are confident that this will be a once in a lifetime, not to be missed, opportunity.

Refreshments and light food will be available from the Galley and Bar.
