Introduction to the Redesmere Sailing Club

Redesmere Sailing Club is set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.

Formed in 1957 to promote and encourage dinghy sailing and racing the Club is based on Redesmere, a feeder lake to the main Capesthorne Hall lake.

The lake's level is controlled by a sluice, and numerous small feeder streams mean the water level rarely varies by more than a few inches, even in the driest summers.

The Club enjoys exclusive sailing rights to the lake, the only power boats being the Club's own safety boats.

It is quite a common sight to see a good number of dinghies out on the water over the weekends and also several evenings during the summer months.

The Clubhouse, which has excellent views over the lake, boasts a main club room with bar, galley, and changing facilities complete with toilets and showers.

The Clubhouse has been extensively refurbished recently making a pleasant location to watch the sailing or enjoy a social event.

The Club organises an active programme of sailing from March through to December.

  • Racing for all abilities on Sundays.
  • Wednesday evening racing during the summer.
  • Saturday afternoon Social Sailings

Several years ago the Club gained the status of being an approved RYA Training Centre.

The training courses have proved extremely successful and popular to all the Club members.

With a growing band of RYA Instructors the Training Programme continues to increase to offer more training to the Clubs' members.

The Club has berthing space for over 100 boats with convenient launching ramps and two jetties for mooring and boarding boats.

Together with a growing fleet of over a dozen Club boats, members can easily try their hand on a range of boats.

With around 150 members, the Club is small enough to provide a friendly atmosphere, for families and beginners, while large enough to provide a good range of sailing and social activities.

It's quite common to see groups of members enjoying, picnics, barbecues or just a social drink whilst the more energetic members are sailing on the lake.
